Leah Levin, Founder & CEO

Originally from Florida, I grew up in and around the water and know first hand about the importance of water safety. At 9 years old I rescued my toddler neighbor from her pool. The sliding glass door was open, her babysitter went to answer the phone, and she walked right into the pool (this was before pool fence laws). That event had a profound impact on me.

I have been a youth development professional in almost every facet. From being a preschool teacher, to receiving both my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Elementary Education from University of Florida (Go Gators!), teaching Kinder, 4th, and 7th grade, and finally being the Education Director at The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz County, teaching is in my blood. I am deeply passionate about raising critical thinking, problem-solving children.

When I became an ISR instructor I saw what an impact these lessons had on not just families, but communities. I wanted to make sure these lessons were available to all, regardless of cost. Noticing an incredible disparity in financial availability to these life-saving lessons in the Central Coast of California inspired me to increase awareness and access. This is how the idea for FLOAT was born.

Oona Rose, Founder & CFO

I am from Salina, Kansas and moved to the Bay Area in 2002. I attended school for Business and Web/Graphic design. My two amazing children, ages 13 and 16 years old, keep me busy with their love of sports. Outside of the pool, you can find us on the baseball field or volleyball court.

My ISR journey started in 2017. That was when a longtime friend lost her three-year-old daughter to drowning. Watching her go through the pain and suffering of losing a child was heart breaking. No family should ever have to lose their child to this unimaginable tragedy. I quickly learned drowning is the leading cause of injury death among children ages 1-4, and I wanted to do anything I could to change this statistic. I joined the mission of ‘Not One More Child Drowns’ and became a Certified ISR Instructor.

While working as an ISR Instructor employed with a nonprofit company, I gradually realized my goals were not the same. I wanted to play a bigger role in drowning prevention and truly help families in need of these lifesaving skills. My small business, ISR with Oona, was started in 2021. Since then, I have been able to personally give fifty-four ISR scholarships and offer free CPR training to twenty community members. Wanting to spread my reach even farther, I teamed together with Leah and created FLOAT California.
